Dillinger Scores Big In Ron Compton Memorial
LATROBE, PA (July 23, 2022) – Braeden Dillinger seems to sniff out the big money races at Latrobe Speedway. Dillinger won the Inaugural Ron Compton Memorial for the K2 Engineering Crate Late Models paying $2065 plus lap money. Dillinger has taken over $7300 out of the race track in a month. Brandon Doland won his second career in the Special T Metals Pro Stocks and Anthony Monteparte took home his fifth in the Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks. Paul Koffler III (Stone & Co. Modified 4 Cylinders) and Tom Wharburton (Vintage Modifieds) each won for the second time while Joe Jacobs (Seal Tite Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders) was awarded his fifth win after a disqualification.
The Vintage Modifieds started the evening off with their 10-lap feature. Tom Wharburton picked up where he left in leading all ten laps to capture his second straight win. Fred Hildebrand was second followed by Wally Stock, Jeff Manners and Hank Coles.
Brandon Doland used his pole starting spot to run off to his second win of the season in the 15-lap Special T Metals Pro Stocks. Tommy Demobowski pressured Doland early in the race before Doland pulled out to comfortable lead. Demobowski had to deal with Jason Fosnaught, in Brett McDonald’s #25, and Sam Eichelberger. Doland stayed out front every lap with Demobowski taking second over Jason Fosnaught, Sam Eichelberger, Jacob Weyer, Casey Fleegle, Brett Hutira, Marty Spade, Dalton Tuche and Bill Slade. The two heats were won by Spade and Fosnaught.
After having to start seventh for a few weeks due to winning the feature the previous week, Anthony Monteparte was starting on the pole for the 12-lap Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks. Monteparte wasted no time taking care of this advantage. He took the lead at the drop of the green and was checking out on the field when a yellow flew on lap eleven. This set up a two lap dash for the checker. On the restart Monteparte let Koteles challenge on the inside in turn two but quickly turned up the wick down the back straight and drove off to his fifth win of the season. Joey Koteles, Stephen Hazlett, Corey Faris, John Cain, John Hollis, Justin Ruff, Shawn Hollis, Jim Zufall and Tim Neiderhiser rounded off the top ten. Koteles and Cain were the heat winners.
Braeden Dillinger seems to have a way of sniffing out high dollar races in the 20-lap K2 Engineering Crate Late Models at Latrobe. This week was the Inaugural Ron Compton Memorial paying $2065 to the winner plus $1420 in lap money for a total of $3485. Dillinger took the lead at the drop of the green with heavy hitters Ryan Frazee and Michael Duritsky close behind. Lap after lap Dillinger slowly pulled away from the pack leading every lap. Frazee held on to second followed by Michael Duritsky, John Over, Jeff Ferguson, Clate Copeman, Troy Shields, Marino Angelicchio, Michael Ott and Dylan Burkett. Troy Shields and John Over were the heat winners.
Tylar Huffman led the opening two laps of the 12-lap Stone & Co Modified 4 Cylinder feature. Paul Koffler III and Tyler Laughard were giving chase. Koffler took the lead on lap three and brought Laughard with him. Laughard was all over the back end of Koffler’s #48 when exited on lap five. Newcomer Phil King took up the chase until he went out over turn three on lap eleven. After a restart on lap ten, Koffler went on to lead the final two laps second win this season. Following second place Dayton Hazlett was Tylar Huffman (from 7th), Wyatt Piper (from 12th), Brandon Myers, Colton McNaney, Dale Grubbs, Brian Spangler and Chris Myers. Phil King, Tyler Laughard and Paul Koffler III were the qualifying heat winners.
The 12-lap Seal Tite Stock 4 Cylinder feature saw Mark Schaeffer lead all 12-laps for the apparent win. A post race inspection saw 3 of the top five cars disqualified with locked axles. This gave the win to Joe Jacobs for the fifth time this season. Second was Matt Underwood followed by Justin Connors, David Holdsworth and Shelby Dicriscio. Jacobs won the heat.
