Chaz Wolbert Earns First Big Block Mod Win at Latrobe; Corey Faris Blows Away Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks for $1500 Pay

LATROBE, PA (August 21, 2022) – The Big Block Modifieds took center stage with the Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks Saturday night at Latrobe Speedway. Chaz Wolbert laid claim to the $2000 for his first win in the Big Blocks at Latrobe Speedway. Over in the Joe’s Body Shop Pure Stocks Corey Faris won $1500 for his third win this season. Michael Duritsky won the K2 Engineering Crate feature for the sixth time while Dale Grubbs won for the third time in the Stone & Co. Modified 4 Cylinders. CJ Parrill won his third in the Seal Tite Strictly Stock 4 Cylinders and Chris Schneider won his first in the Special T Metals Pro Stocks.

The 20-lap K2 Engineering Crate Late Model feature was up first. Three time champion Troy Shields powered into the lead at the drop of the green. Shields had a slight lead with Braeden Dillinger and Michael Duritsky battling for the runner-up spot. Shields was looking for his first win as he continued his lead. Duritsky was finally able to get around Dillinger on lap nine and set his sights on leader Shields. He quickly reeled him in and made an inside pass in turns one and two for the lead. Once out front Duritsky checked out and came home with his sixth feature win this season. Shields held off Dillinger for second with John Over, Clate Copeman, Marino Angelicchio, Joe Zulisky, Tanner Hauger, Noah Brunell and Zach Herring completing the top ten. Ryan Frazee and Braeden Dillinger won the qualifying heats.

Mark Schaeffer led the opening lap of the 12-lap Seal Tite Strictly Stocks. CJ Parrill then took over command the following lap. Parrill was able to lead the rest of the way to claim his third checkered flag this year. Schaeffer kept the runner up position followed by Justin Connors, Joe Huffman and Kaitlyn Spangler. Heats were won by Joe Jacobs and Mark Schaeffer.

Joe’s Body Shop put up $1500 to win the 20-lap Pure Stock main event. Outside pole sitter Stephen Hazlett took the lead over Joey Koteles at the start. Hazlett held off a stout field of Koteles, Anthony Monteparte and EJ Rozak breathing down his back. Monteparte grabbed the second position on lap four and took up chase on Hazlett. A second restart on lap eight saw Monteparte go to the outside and pass Hazlett for the lead as they headed into one and two and sixth starting Corey Faris came with him. Monteparte was only able to lead three laps before Faris drove by for the lead. Once in command Faris was gone and won $1500 for his third win. Monteparte held on to second with Stephen Hazlett, EJ Rozak, Joey Koteles, Justin Ruff, Jim Hixson, Jim Zufall, Cody Behanna and John Cain filling out the top ten in the 18 car field. Heat were taken by Hazlett, Monteparte and Jim Hixson.

Steve Feder led the way in the 20-lap Big Block Modified Special. Feder and Brian Swartzlander made contact battling for the lead and spun out. Both drivers went to the tail handing the lead over to Big Block rookie Chaz Wolbert. Wolbert, of Champion, OH, was not going to be denied and scored the BB Modified win in convincing style. Rick Regalski, Steve Slater, Steve Feder, Mark Frankhouser, Randy Chronister, Brian Swartzlander and Colton Walters filled out the field. Swartzlander won the lone heat.

Chris Schneider invaded Latrobe Speedway and earned his second win of the weekend in the Special T Metals Pro Stocks. Schneider wasted no time taking the lead with Cody Koteles in tow. Schneider led all 15-laps for the win. Brett Hutira came from tenth to claim second over Koteles, Joey Zambotti, Brandon Doland, Jacob Weyer, Tommy Dembowski, Marty Spade, Casey Fleegle and Chris Wolfe. Koteles and Hutira were the heat winners.

Dale Grubbs had been vacant from victory lane for over two month but that all changed in the 12-lap Stone & Co. Modified 4 Cylinder feature. Grubbs led every lap but he had pressure from previous winners, Dayton Hazlett, Paul Koffler III and Tylar Huffman. Koffler got around Hazlett on lap two to chase Grubbs. Koffler fell out on lap eight and Tylar Huffman then took up battle but Grubbs was up to task. Grubbs won for the third time and was followed by Tylar Huffman, Dayton Hazlett, Wyatt Piper, Chris Myers, Colton McNaney, Tiffany McElhose, Alex Starcher, Adam Jones and Jason Rittenour.
