Battling Mother Nature & Bringing the Action!
Finally! After a brief pause in the action due to a mix of bad weather and administrative delays, we were officially back under the lights at the fast half-mile of Latrobe Speedway. Everything was primed for a perfect night of racing, but Mother Nature decided to try for a late entry, dumping a sudden downpour on the speedway.
But the track crew at Latrobe wasn’t about to let a little rain stop the show. They worked feverishly to save the surface and get the track run back in. After a brief delay, the engines fired, and the night kicked off with a massive fan favorite: the Kidz Klub PowerWheels races! It was a lineup fueled by pure juice-box energy, and these kids put on an absolute show for the crowd. Taking the checkered flag in the 3–6 Year Old Division was Hayden Hixon, while Lizzy Vogel dominated the field to capture the win in the 7–10 Year Old Division.
Once the kids set the bar, it was time for the big cars to take over. First up to the line for feature action were the Pollock Family, Pete’s Firearms, J. Basinger Lawn & Land Hobby Stocks. Popular demolition derby star Jesse McBryar proved he can drive in circles just as well as he can smash cars, putting on a clinic and winning the feature in convincing fashion.
Next up, the Modified 4 Cylinders took the green flag. Chris Myers was putting on an incredibly strong showing and looked like the car to beat until heartbreak struck and his machine suddenly lost power. That opened the door for the #513 of Andrew Jones, who inherited the lead and refused to look back, holding off the field to park it in Victory Lane!
The Pure Stocks kept the momentum rolling with a familiar piece of equipment finding its way back to the winner’s circle. The former Anthony Monteparte chassis, now piloted by Michael Luce, put on a dominating performance. Luce had his mirrors full, though, as he had to hold off a furious charge from Corey Faris, who sliced his way through the field all the way from the 7th starting spot.
Heavy artillery rolled out next with the Seal Tite Paving & Maintenance Crate Late Models. It turned into an absolute battle of the 11s for the hardware. When the dust settled, Jeff Ferguson managed to hold off a hard-charging Troy Shields to secure a thrilling victory.
Closing out an incredible night of racing was the unpredictable Crown Vics feature. Ed Vogel was absolutely dominating the field and looking well on his way to the win until mechanical gremlins struck. With Vogel sidelined, Garrett Wolfe inherited the top spot and drove a masterful remaining few laps, holding off a charging Ricky Daniels to take the final checkered flag of the night!
